D. Bruce Curry
Mr. Curry's philosophy of art arises from his worldview. Having confidence that the world will inevitably be transformed into a lasting state of harmony and peace, he attempts to create a body of work that gives voice to this hope. He also believes that humans can and should act in the present so as to move the world toward this ultimate condition of shalom. In the portfolio images presented here, the subjects come from examples in everyday life that can encourage us in this enduring hope: the goodness of workmen filling bags of grain; the evidence of worthwhile work represented by hay rolls on a hill; the seasonal hope of productivity evidenced by freshly plowed red earth being readied for strawberries; the simplicity and immediacy of a child shaping a furrow in the damp sand on a beach, reminding us that we can all make a difference; and finally, the large, double canvas, an abstraction of the starry sky, the immense gift of creation that can inspire joy, faith, and hope.
