Road Trip???

Member Lorraine Jacobs sent this message from her studio in New Zealand.

Hi NAG folks! I didn't make it to Nashville this year. And last year I got food-poisoning so was laid low much of the time I was in Nashville. Hopefully I'll catch up with folk on the next visit, whenever that may be!

Meanwhile, keep thinking of an NAG painting tour of beautiful New Zealand!

President's Message

Dear Board Members, Committee Members and Guild Members:

Another exciting year for the Guild will begin in September - and it will be here sooner than we think! I wanted to share with you a message regarding my second term as President of the Guild.

In my first year we were able to present some exciting programs and exhibits – thanks to the hard work of everyone involved. It is my goal and desire now to accomplish even more in this upcoming year of 2009 - 2010.

We have programs already scheduled for September and October, and one that will be held in either November or January 2010. Two exhibitions are also in the works but dates are not yet scheduled. Garry Hornbuckle, Program Chair, or Ev Niewoehner, Exhibitions Chair, will let you know the details sometime in August. You will also hear from me again in August.

There are two things I would like to invite each Guild member to do:

  1. Share your ideas for programs, exhibitions, fund raisers, and other events that will promote the Guild in Nashville and surrounding communities.
  2. For those of you who haven’t committed to serving on or Chairing a committee yet, please do so. The Guild will grow and become even more successful through our ideas and by the people who step forward to see these ideas through to fruition.

I am excited about being your president for a second term and my goal is to engender enthusiasm in all our members for the Guild and its potential. Many of you have held this position before me – even several times - so I will continue to stand on the shoulders of the past achievements and successes that you have accomplished.

Now is my time to be President. I hope to bring to this position my knowledge, experience and unique style. Please bear with me if I reach too far or not far enough. Know that I will always seek counsel from the Board, Past Presidents and Chair Persons.

ABOUT IDEAS: they often come at the oddest of times. For example, if I should be on the phone or at lunch with someone and an idea for a Guild program, exhibit, or other event should pop into my head, I will take the opportunity in that moment to invite them to give a program, host an exhibition, or support the Guild in some other way. Afterwards, I will pass this information on to the appropriate Chair Person to follow up on and complete the job.

Whenever any of you have an idea for a program, exhibit, etc., please share your idea with a Board member or a Committee Chair Person. They can then take the appropriate action. That is the way I see Guild activities flowing and moving forward.

Thank each of you for your help and also for the wonderful book. Have a great summer; I will see you at the Picnic Party in August. Details on this to come.

Sincerely,

Ken White

Latest NAG Member News

...by Wyma Hornbuckle

CONGRATULATIONS TO SUSAN AND JAIRO PRADO on the birth of a beautiful baby girl: Maya Sequoia Prado. She arrived April 30, 2009; 7 pounds, 9 1/4 ounces, and 19 1/2 inches in length; perfectly beautiful and with lots of dark hair!

THE GUILD SENDS LOVE and SYMPATHY to Mitchell Chamberlain on the recent death of his father.

MIMI WALSH had back surgery not long ago but is making great progress toward recovery.

MARION BROQUIST'S HUSBAND, HARRY, continues to be quite ill.

STANLEY RABOLD, husband of our late member, JEANETTE RABOLD, passed away recently. He had moved out west to be near their sons.

MADELINE REED called recently and gave me an update on her situation. Because she suffered a broken ankle months ago, she has been in a wheel chair most of this school year. She continued to teach however as soon as she was able to return to school. She will teach one class in the fall and then retire. Madeline was Director of the Art Department at Watkins for a long while and served one term as President of the Guild. She plans to spend lots of time with her art work after retiring.

MARGO SEBELIST is still quite ill and must have round- the- clock care. She is still living at her daughter's home in Bellevue.

MARILYN BRISBOIS' mother is seriously ill and Marilyn has been caring for her.  Her  mother lives in another state and is unable to travel to Marilyn's home in Murfreesboro.

KIM CADY'S father will be going in for lung cancer surgery after his recent successful surgery for bladder cancer.  Kim is her father's sole caretaker.

Please remember those who are ill or who are facing difficult family situations.

Be happy and rejoice for the birth of little Maya Prado !!

April - May 2009 News

 NAG News: April-May 2009
- by Wyma Hornbuckle

President's Message

WOW!! The Guild has made terrific progress in so many areas this past season... some of it has been structural and not so visible but much is beginning to come to fruition.  It is critical for members to attend our monthly meetings.  Remember, we have only eight meetings and two parties each year!   Make a special effort to attend Sunday's meeting.

Thanks,
Ken

NEXT MEETING is Sunday, May 3

Yes, our meeting is this next Sunday! Please remember that we voted to change the date to Sunday, May 3rd because Mother's Day falls on the 2nd Sunday (our usual meeting day !)

Vine Street Christian Church
4104 Harding Road
Nashville, TN

Board Meeting : 2:00 PM
Membership Meeting: 2:30 PM

Please remember that this is our last scheduled meeting until our summer party/picnic in August!

Program for May

  • Critique of members' in-process work will continue. If you are *stuck* or have a problem with a piece of work and would like some feedback, bring one or two pieces of your art work and get some professional feedback from your peers.
  • Website update. The new website is getting good traffic and has great search rankings. Find out more at the meeting!
  • Election of Officers. We'll select our officers for 2009-2010 at the May meeting. Vote!

NEWSLETTER NEWS

Don't forget that we are shifting from email to the web as the primary way to distribute our news. This change makes it posible for us to post updates as they happen rather than wait until the end of each month. Submit your announcements, news, etc. to Wyma Hornbuckle and they'll quickly be posted on the web.

If you still prefer email, don't worry! Our new website allows you to subscribe to our News & Events as a Blog feed. If you have questions about how to set this up, ask.
