March - April 2009 News

NAG News: March-April 2009

- by Wyma Hornbuckle

Hello all !!   This is the first time for posting news on our new Web Site !!  There will likely be errors and some changes in the formatting as we go along but this is a very positive step toward getting information distributed to our members in a timely fashion.  News, announcements, and other info will be posted as they happen or as they are reported. This first time I am sending it by email as well as posting it on our web site.

I'm going to simply post the current info today.

NEXT MEETING

Sunday, April 5, 2009
(If you were present you should know that this meeting is one week early because Easter is April 12.)

Board Meeting:  2:00 pm
Membership Meeting:  2:30 pm

PROGRAM
  1. As announced earlier, we will be critiquing and discussing the work of some of our members.  If you would like to have some of your work critiqued by Guild members, please contact Garry Hornbuckle.  This will be a major part of our *program* for both April and May.
  2. Our new web site is rapidly becoming a beautiful reality.  About 1/2 of our members have submitted their work.  Each member has his / her own web page and is allowed 6 images and a brief bio / artist statement.  If you have not yet seen the web site, make sure that you do before Sunday as this will be discussed and you will have the opportunity to ask questions, make comments, etc.  The address is www.nashvilleartistguild.org   Our newsletter will become *News and Events* and items will be posted on - going, not just in a monthly letter.  All of this will be explained and discussed Sunday.
  3. The Nominating Committee will also present the slate of officers for the coming year.  Members should be thinking about the committee on which they would like to serve.  Our President, Ken White, will be appointing Committee Chairs.
  4. Mitchell has one new applicant also for us to vote on at this next meeting.

Thanks!  See you Sunday!

Attention Artist, Are last exhibit, The Real, Raw, And Beautiful was a great success! Many compliments to the artist who displayed your work! We appreciate your talent and hope that you will be involved in other exhibits here at the center! You can pick up your photos sometime this week. We are in the process of collecting for our next exhibit Art That Speaks. Here is some information: Donelson Station will be hosting a new exhibit Art That Speaks. Pieces must be in by Friday April 17. There will be a special reception for all artist. Friday April 24, 5 p.m. Wine and appetizers will be provided. The exhibit will display contemporary mediums where artist have brought a voice to that particular piece. People say that art speaks to them in ways words cannot. When words fall short, a work of art can tell a story, express a feeling, recreate a memory and serve as a vehicle of expression. Art allows for validation of emotions and a way to communicate with each other. This exhibit will display local artist from the Nashville area. If you would like to participate in this exhibit or future exhibits call 883-8375 or bring your pieces in during operating hours, Monday-Thursday 8am-7pm, Friday 8am-3pm, and Saturday 8am-12noon. The exhibit will be displayed in the halls during our production of The Producers, which bring over 1,000 people to our center! The exhibit dates are April 24th-May 31st. You can pick up your pieces the following week. Please bring your pieces (if they are pictures/paintings, we ask that they be framed/mounted, ready to hang) to the center and deliver them to the director Jane Schnelle or program director Mel Shicks. Artist can enter more than one piece in the exhibit. Be sure to have on the back of each piece: Your name, (name of your studio or business name, if you have one), your phone number, the name or title of the piece, the work or artist that inspired this piece, and the price you want or put “not for sale.” Also a short bio is appreciated (if you would like to hang our bio next to your piece, please bring it framed and ready to hang). If you do wish to sell your piece, 75% of the total sale goes to the owner, the other 25% will benefit the FiftyForward and Senior Center for the Arts. Remember, this is a great opportunity to become more known as an artist, as the plays have sellout crowds every week! Art pieces will be hung by Jane Schnelle, Mel Shicks, and Roberta Steinmetz. Each piece will be given an identification plaque with information about it. There is no limit on the number of submissions as long as there is space in the hallways (first come first serve policy). Thank you for your consideration, and we hope that you will participate in this exhibit!
